The hydropathic field begins to shift in focus from "cure to prevention," focusing on hygiene and the disease prevention properties of water. Hydropathy will also begin to be referred to as "hygeiotherapy," and later as "hydrotherapy." Some of the first female physicians in the United States will graduate within this field.
