COYOTE is formed to work towards the decriminalization of sex work.

The organization's name is an acronym for Call Off Your Old Tired Ethics. It is founded on Mother's Day by Margo St. James, a former sex worker who was arrested in the 1960s, then went to law school, and later, successfully overturned her own conviction.
