Founded by Charles Francis Potter, the Euthanasia Society of America advocates for providing information to the public regarding the "lawful termination of human life by painless means for the purpose of avoiding unnecessary suffering under adequate safeguards" (Patients Rights Council, n.d.).

Their platform is motivated by the desire to provide a gentle termination of life for the "incurably diseased individual."
