Executive Order 9066 forces thousands of U.S. citizens of Japanese descent into internment camps.
Date: 1942
President Franklin Roosevelt signs the order in 1942. He does so as a response to the conflict with Japan during WWII, and by using the Alien Enemy Act of 1798.
Over 120,000 people of Japanese descent will be forced into internment camps, including families who have lived in the United States for over three generations.
