"Fat Liberation Manifesto" published.

Date: 1973

FAT
RES

Written by Judy Freespirit and Sara Aldebaran of the Los Angeles-based Fat Underground, the feminist manifesto critiques the "reducing industries" of weight loss and diet culture for their false health claims and exploitation of fat bodies for profit.

The authors also write that they "see our struggle as allied with the struggles of other oppressed groups against classism, racism, sexism, ageism, financial exploitation, imperialism and the like" (Freespirit & Aldebaran, 1973).
