To filter by a particular topic and see a smaller section of the data, make a selection on the dropdown “Filters” menu or click “Search” to do a keyword search. Hover over the abbreviated filter tags in the blue boxes to see the complete name of the filter, or click a filter to display all the data with this tag. First Pan-African Congress takes place.

The congress is organized adjacent to the Paris Peace Conference as a convening to discuss international anti-Black racism and global Black unity. The U.S. provides one of the largest cohorts. This first Pan-African Congress will be followed by two others, which will set some of the foundations for African independence struggles into the 1950s and 60s.
