This is the first time the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) is tested. The results of the tests are returned in under two hours, and show if there is a genetic match between the sample and anyone previously convicted of a crime across the nation.

An expansion of CODIS called "CODISmpi", or CODIS Missing Persons Index, will be developed to identify missing persons.
