Drawing on the work of fat liberation activists from previous decades, physiologist Lindo Bacon publishes Health At Every Size: The Surprising Truth About Your Weight in 2008. This book outlines the framework that will become elaborated as the Health At Every Size Principles by the Association for Size Diversity and Health.

The framework encourages balanced eating and enjoyable physical activities for overall health rather than weight loss through "dieting" and restricting specific "forbidden" foods.
