Mental health institutions begin using closed-circuit television to remotely monitor and treat patients.
Date: 1955
The Nebraska Psychiatric Institute and Norfolk State Hospital begin using closed-circuit television (CCTV) to organize group and long-term therapy via television, as well as to conduct medical student training. This is the first time digital monitoring is used in healthcare for both medical treatment and education.
In 1964, the two institutions will establish the first two-way video link to build and bridge programming across both sites.
