In the U.S. Supreme Court case Bragdon v. Abbott, a woman with HIV sues her dentist for refusing to fill a cavity outside of a hospital setting, which would not be covered by her insurance. She files a lawsuit against the dentist under the American Disability Act, which prohibits private providers of public accommodations from discriminating.

It becomes a monumental case because it extends American Disability Act protections to people living with HIV/AIDS regardless of if they are symptomatic.
