The Powhatan Wars are fought between British settler-colonists and the Powhatan people over land that is now Virginia, which was stolen from Indigenous people for agricultural use by white settler-colonists. Also known as the “Jamestown Massacre," this conflict is often identified as the first Native-settler battle on what is now U.S. soil. The Royal British Virginia Company orders the extermination of the entire Powhatan community.
