Reagan introduces the "Global Gag Rule," which bans U.S. aid to international abortion providers.

Date: 1984

ABOR
RHRR

Also known as the "Mexico City Policy," the Global Gag Rule prevents non-governmental organizations (NGOs) abroad who receive U.S. funding from providing abortion services or referrals, or advocating for abortion law reform, even if these activities are funded by their own money.

The rule will be repealed by President Clinton in 1993, and then reinstated under Republican presidents and repealed by Democrats moving forward.
