Rural health surveys conducted by the Public Health and Marine Hospital Service.
Date: 1910s
These public health surveys consist of door-to-door canvassing to understand the health status and needs of the rural population. The surveys will lead to the establishment of local county health boards and departments for managing rural health care.
In addition to assessing the environment, the surveyors will make recommendations for the disposing of waste and building sanitary sheds with toilets (also known as privies or outhouses) in every home.
