States allow "harvesting" from deceased bodies under the custody of a coroner or medical examiner.

States begin to allow for the retrieval of eye tissue, corneas, pituitary glands, and some organs from cadavers under the custody of a coroner or medical examiner. Because these bodies are undergoing an autopsy and do not have known relatives to consent, this harvesting is considered to be ethical as the bodies have already been invaded through autopsy.
