States allow "harvesting" from deceased bodies under the custody of a coroner or medical examiner.
Date: 1960
States begin to allow for the retrieval of eye tissue, corneas, pituitary glands, and some organs from cadavers under the custody of a coroner or medical examiner. Because these bodies are undergoing an autopsy and do not have known relatives to consent, this "harvesting" is considered to be "ethical" as the bodies have already been "invaded" through autopsy.
