The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People organizes "Better Baby Contests" for Black families.
Date: 1920s
Organized throughout the 1920s and 30s, the contests are touted as a form of "positive eugenics," which is an ideology that combines heredity, infection control, nutrition, and sanitation in the quest for the common goal of improving the health of future generations.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People's (NAACP) contests also raise funds to combat lynchings.
