Angela Davis imprisoned.

Date: 1970

RES
PIC

Angela Davis, a Black Marxist and feminist political activist, is accused of aiding and abetting a shoot-out to free three Black prisoners by purchasing the guns used. Davis is charged with murder, kidnapping, and criminal conspiracy, even though there is no connection between Davis and the guns purchased.

Davis goes into hiding and is put on the FBI’s most wanted list. When she is arrested and held in jail for a year, a global movement grows in response. She will eventually be acquitted of all charges.

The time Davis spends in jail will deeply politicize her about the prison industrial complex, leading her to create the abolitionist organization, Critical Resistance.
